(Yum!) Below are the list of ingredients that my mother-in-law, (((((Linda))))) and I enjoy using.

Ingredients:

1/3 cup Oatmeal

½ tsp Ceylon Cinnamon

1 ½ tsp. White Chia

½ tsp. I soak my almonds overnight in filtered water. Doing this makes the almonds easier to blend, and removes enzyme inhibitors.....decreasing some of the acidity, making them easier to digest. For information about the benefits of soaking almonds, visit the following sites:

http://www.buzzle.com/articles/benefits-of-soaking-almonds-in-water.html

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rig3vF3WOwM

http://www.bodyecology.com/06/11/09/how_to_eat_and_not_eat_almonds.php

If I'm not readily able to peel my almonds after soaking them, I pour out the water, add fresh water to the bowl....then let the almonds sit in the fridge for a day or 2 until I have the time to peel them. Our family love using almonds for various recipes--like yogurt, raw vegan cookies, ice cream, and yummy almond milk.

http://www.jacquelinegraham.com/2010/10/raw-almond-yogurt.html

When we finish a container of milk, there are almonds already soaking and waiting to make the next container or recipe/dessert. In my experience, peeling is very easy after soaking.....but, if you happen to get a stubborn batch of almonds that are hard to peel.....for those that don't mind a minute or two of heat (some raw vegans do mind), boil a pot of water. Once boiled, remove pot and pour your soaked almonds into it for about 1-2 minutes. Quickly drain and pour the almonds into a cold bowl of water. Test by giving one of the almonds a slight squeeze. It should slip easily out of the skin. Sometimes, nearly shooting across the room! Here is a video that may be helpful.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgXsSGJDLqQ

On the video, they did this method via microwave. To the health conscious, I would suggest no microwaving.

Almonds blended with filtered water.

Above is a photo of my set-up. To the left, I have a 5 gallon jug of Kangen water http://www.enagic.com/. My mother-n-law has this filtration system, and I love it so much that I'm thinking about selling the units to earn money to purchase my own....so if you're interested, please remember me, my friends! :-) In the center is my VitaMix blender. At medium, then high speed, I blend the soaked almonds, filtered water, and a pinch of sea salt (it brings the flavor to life)until smooth.....then, pour through a nut milk bag to separate the almond meal/pulp.

I save the pulp to dry separately and use as almond flour to make raw deserts, like cookies. The book is written in a style that is stimulating to the well seasoned journal artist, yet not intimidating to those new to this form of art. From the very beginning, she gets you to face the challenge of conquering the inner gremlins that may inhibit you. Through a combination of writing and art, she encourages you to get into the routine of "actively" journaling. She advises keeping things simple instead of putting off journaling based on the mentality that you must always create monumental pages. The main goal is joy and contentment in your journey, being yourself, and keeping it raw and real!

Since I am into the raw vegan lifestyle, the thought of raw journaling was quite the love connection.*smile* This leads to my present topic for journaling. Health and fitness!

Found Poetry from word clippings.

One of the things that I enjoy doing for health and fitness is backpacking. The background of the found poetry above is a mixture of watercolor and collage. The word clippings were found within mail ads, brochures, and various magazines. The drawing of the lady came from the inspiration of a drawing illustration in my favorite hiking magazine, Women's Adventure Magazine. They can also be found on Facebook. I changed the image to an African American to depict my personal joy and experience in hiking. When I hike and see the wonders of creation, it brings me a deeper appreciation and connection to my Father, Jehovah. The poem reads:

Hiking.

Word tags and clippings

Almost a religion.
Love the adventure...
plunging ahead
to the beautiful and
cherished forest land.
Waterfall in a downpour.
So special.
I climb high.
Far away from the worries
that weighed heavily upon my soul.
Thirst for living
peace in the moment.
Thank you Jehovah.
Glory and honor to your name.

My next journal page started with a page that I tore out of an old novel. (Shown on the first picture in this post onto the clipboard.) Quinn instructed the reader to circle words within the page to create his/her own poetic thoughts. After circling my thoughts, I colored the words in green, drew and watercolored the woman and background landscaping inspired by various health related images that I found on the internet. I thought of the phrase "Healthy Lifestyle", and within that phrase, I noticed "Heal Thy Life".

Found Poetry from a novel page.

HEAL-THY LIFEstyle

She didn't smoke.

She didn't drink.

Her weight, ordinary.

Running......taking aerobic classes.

Longevity meant she would
live her three score and ten.

People reasonably expect

her to play.

Driven. "And now for something completely different." My sons and I have been fascinated with rock climbing, and decided to go for indoor training at Stronghold Athletic Club in Columbia, SC (USA). We had a "blast"! Felt like a kid again, climbing to the very top. HUZZAH!!! My music inspiration of the day:

"Can You Take Me Higher"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LASeWCB8J0

Some of the photos we took at Stronghold are located in my Multiply photo gallery.

Drop by and check 'em out!

I have learned that there is a nice rock climbing gym in Atlanta. Needless to say, we will be heading that way soon. There is a rock climbing Meet-up group in Atlanta. How awesome is that! Hopefully, we can learn a lot of tips from climbers there. I will be looking into 101 classes at Fox Mountain Guides. Perfect homeschool PE for my sons.

This was such a wonderful experience! The exhibitors are listed in the WJBF-Channel 6 website. It was truly amazing, the attendance and support for this event. Cars where parked everywhere!! Not only was the parking area filled.....cars were parked long distances alongside neighboring roads. There were golf carts for those who wanted a ride from the parking area to the expo, then back to their cars after attending. The expo offered free health screenings for both children and adults. There was blood sugar testing, a blood pressure check, Zyto Compass screening to identify supplements that the body is lacking, eye/hearing exams, and more! For added enjoyment, there was face painting for the kids, a Wii exercise tournament, and boat rides.

Would you believe that I saw a book at one of the exhibits dedicated to raw vegan food preparation! The title of the book is "First Generation Raw". (photo bottom left) Needless to say, the book is now in my possession. *smile*

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lmlbxCN-3g0/TruloPnKTFI/AAAAAAAAA8Y/mSE_PYRYrec/s1600/101_0987.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; I decided to check out their cooking class, and learned some wonderful new recipes. I enjoy preparing raw vegan meals.....and though, my sons do not reject it, they have clearly stated that they do not aspire to be 100%. They enjoy a balance of both worlds (vegan + non-vegan), and work towards eating as healthy as possible. When I prepare meals for them, I try to have a meeting of the minds. Will see if they like some of the recipes from this class.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; If I decide for a cheesy taste, I'll simply sprinkle a dab of Nutritional Yeast. What I am anxious to try with this dish is raw walnut meatballs. Will let ya' know how that turns out!

The way that I make my angel hair zucchini is by using a Saladacco Spiral Slicer. Simply slice the zucchini to a manageable size. Turn the crank on the top to turn the zucchini into the spiralizer blade......

.....and a thin pasta like strand will collect in the bottom chamber.

If you don’t have a spiral slicer yet, simply grate the zucchini or peel it with a peeler for a flat fettuccine-type “noodle”.

Just a quick post of what I'm up to on the topic of healthy eating. Blogging about it, from time to time, encourages me and keeps me focused. Sometimes, it is a matter of being a plate away in the return to old habits of comfort eating. I am determined to continue my healthy journey. float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;">Step 1
Peel and cut onions in half. On a side note--to me, sweet onions taste better in this recipe. When dehydrating, taste intensifies....and the yellow onions leave the crackers tasting strong and bitter. I have heard others recommending Maui or Walla Walla as delicious sweet onions to use in raw vegan food preparation. Think that I will definitely experiment with those, as well.

Place the onions that you have sliced into a food processor and cut into a soft, pulpy consistency. Add the onions, golden flax seeds, Bragg, and Tamari Sauce into a large mixing bowl. According to your personal taste, add smoked paprika, dehydrated parsley flakes, and black sesame seeds. (That is optional. Some of my crackers I add those ingredients, and others I make plain to have a nice variety, as you will notice in my photos.) Mix the ingredients thoroughly.

Step 2
Spread 2 2/3 cups of the mixture thin and evenly on a Teflax sheet or parchment paper. Use your spreading knife or utensil to softly score the spread to divide into squares or triangle shapes. This makes it easier to break the crackers apart once dehydrated. Carefully slide the Teflax sheet with ingredients onto the dehydrator tray and place into the dehydrator. Hobby Lobby had some of the battleship gray linoleum. It was calling my name. *smile* The first one that I experimented with is the Golden Cut. Before starting my new project, I decided to get the feel of the linoleum by carving patterns on a spare piece. Not bad!

Ink brayers and barens

Of course, it was firmer than softoleum, but not too firm. No doubt, a tad bit easier to carve than the battleship grey. To the above right is a quick sketch that I did for carving practice. The proportions of the sketch is not correct...but ya' know what, I'm letting it go. I am more interested in hopping in and getting started with the skill and practice of carving than I am in erasing and redrawing the sketch. You choose your battles. Will post a picture of the results when I am finished with the carving and printing. This is going to be fun! :-)
---------------

Here are a few printmaking books that are my faves!

Art Stamping Workshop by Gloria Page (Awesome book for getting started in relief printmaking)
The Printmaking Bible by Ann Hughes and Hebe Vernon-Morris
The Complete Printmaker by John Ross
Printmaking + Mixed Media by Doris Elisha
Print Workshop: Hand-Printing Techniques and Truly Original Projects by Christine Schmidt
The Woodcut Artist's Handbook by George A. If smoothie is too thick add a little more almond milk, water, or juice. Serve.

Mmmmmmm.......Life is good!

noreply@blogger.com (Jacqueline F. *Note to self: I got a bit too happy with cutting the bits small. Make them a little bigger, because they shrink dramatically when being dehydrated. Put it in a large bowl or Ziploc bag. Add nutritional yeast, sea salt (seasoned to taste), and pepper if you like spicy food. Stir or toss ingredients until pieces are well coated. If using a Ziploc bag, seal it all shut and shake. Dehydrate for 10-12 hours.

The recipe does not taste like popcorn as we know it. I find that a taste has to be cultivated for some of the raw vegan recipes. It is fun, however, experimenting....and this particular recipe will be a nice, healthy treat for me when I'm feeling the munchies! Here is my favorite video for preparing it: Raw Food Muscle. There were areas that we literally crawled up all fours, and also walked through mud and streams. Right up my alley. *giggles*

Guess What! A rattler crossed our path!!! It was sooooo beautiful!!! We took photos of him! He saw us and minded his own business. Simply crossed as if to say "How do you do." *imagine gentleman's tilting of the hat*

I have pictures to share of Jehovah God's marvelous work that we had the joy and awe of seeing. Here is a preview of one of the falls. We learned about all of the basic equipment needed for backpacking. I was amazed at the information we learned about how to do "lightweight" backpacking. Less weight on your back makes the hike more enjoyable and keeps the hiker balanced. The info was so interesting that I went home and spent hours on Google reading, uploading, and printing all that I could find regarding it. One of the booklets I found to be beneficial can be read here: Hikelight.com

Here are a few photos of our fun day at the backpacking seminar! A special thanks to our outstanding instructor Mark! He works so hard with these classes, and lovingly does it free of charge.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; We traded 6 letterbox cards for 6 in return. In making LTCs [letterbox trading cards], the image used must be hand carved. Below is a photo of my carving and how it looks when it is inked and stamped.

The additional photos are the LTCs I created using the carved stamp. The background of the cards were made with wet wipes. If you ever have baby wipes or wet wipes to dry out on you.....don't throw them away! Recycle them through your art. Painting them with watercolor creates the coolest tie dye effect that can be used for handmade greeting cards, artist trading cards or letterbox trading cards, and collage art! In doing this project, after watercoloring and allowing the wipes to dry, I glued them to watercolor paper that I had previously cut 2.5x3.5. The additional watercolored wipes were used to make envelopes for the LTCs. I decided to make an extra card as a first finder gift for one of my letterboxes that I will plant (or hide). It will also contain the carved turtle, and a login book for finders to stamp their signature carvings and a brief comment! To learn about letterboxing, visit: http://www.atlasquest.com/ You never know.....one could be hidden in your area.

Thought I would share where I do my stamping and soft-block carvings.

I have different areas throughout my home that I use based upon the type of art that I am doing. Since I don't have a studio, here again.... I made 2 of them.....1 burgundy, and the other green. (photo above) Printed a Kingdom Melody (song #44, "Jehovah Really Cares") from one of our previous books, on light colored decorative paper. Added a leaf that I dried, and made polymer clay chips for embellishment.

On the inside of the card, I included a poem by a very talented brother named David Rogers. What a beautiful soul he has. This poem said all the right words.

Heart Song

"At times we feel so much, but we don't say a word; We're screaming inside, yet, we can't be heard. But Jehovah hears our words, as we fall, bleeding and broken; With heartfelt utterances, although left unspoken.

Given the strength to rise from the ashes; Faith and courage, to survive the clashes. Keep going, keep moving, we're almost to the end; You're going to be alright, my family and friend..."

noreply@blogger.com (Jacqueline F. This "a will-a way" post is written on behalf of those who work at figuring out ways to keep things organized and de-cluttered in the home. Creating space seems to be an ongoing job for me. We are a family of 4 and live in a small/modest condo. I am thankful and have no complaints. *smile* I truly LOVE our home sweet home. My challenge, however, is creating space so that things will be organized, spacious, and cramp free.

Each of my sons have a personal library in their bedrooms, but I didn't have enough room in mine. I actually needed 2 libraries....one for art, novels, and books in general, and one for my spiritual library. I also needed a bit of additional room to store literature -American Sign Language DVDs included- for the ministry work. There was no way that I was going to have space for 2 libraries, so for the one that I needed the most room, I decided to use our linen closet upstairs that is midway our hall and right by my room. I removed the door so that the books would be visible and easily accessible, and will paint the area where the hinges were located. I was so happy that this worked out. As for the linen, we have shelves and storage units in each bathroom for towels etc. We also have units in our closets to organize bedsheets and blankets.

<a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-DVSXhT0eY6s/TYbG4ORRWRI/AAAAAAAAAzw/bDb4YlbApZM/s1600/1943+Watchtower.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; *Many thanks to Donna for her lovely gift of the '43 Watchtower, and Patricia for her wonderful gift of the Kingdom Melody Albums! My friends ROCK!!!!* I am touched when it comes to our spiritual heritage and sometimes find myself teary eyed when I see, touch, or even smell items dealing with our past. (Older, "antiquish" items do indeed have a smell...and my sense of it is keen.) This wonderful history keeps me focused and grounded. It gives me goose-pimples to see old photographs of how the preaching work was done, hearing talks from long ago, or viewing displays at Bethel and Assembly Halls. I consider it all precious, and priceless.

(((((((Much Love))))))
~Jacqui

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; I learn so much from others, and enjoy experimenting with recipes, both new and old.

noreply@blogger.com (Jacqueline F.
